The technological updates of 2017 were huge and stunning, the tech has moved at a swifter place in 2017 than any other year. Let’s break it down for each technology.

Self-driving Cars: Autonomous car or a robotic car is a vehicle which is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human assistance. Alike humans, self driving cars require sensors to understand the world around them and a brain that collects, processes and chooses specific actions based on the information gathered. The same goes for self-driving cars, and each autonomous vehicle is outfitted with advanced tools to gather information, including long-range radar, LIDAR, cameras, short/medium-range radar, and ultrasound.
While self-driving cars were expected to be normal in around 2020, but in November 2017, Waymo announced that fully autonomous driving vehicles, with no human behind the wheels, are now available for testing in real traffic conditions on streets and highways , in Phoenix, Arizona. In near future, Mercedes and Bosch are making their self-driving cars. Volkmar Denner, Bosch chief, has informed Automobilwoche, that the two companies will put test vehicles on the road within few weeks.
This means, if things go right, we’re gonna see a trend of high tech self driving cars, less human errors in traffic, less number of licenses getting issued, great amount of time being saved, decline in the sales of traditional cars and higher life dependency on technology.
Chatbot: is a communication interface that engages & maintains in conversations with a user in natural language, understands the purpose of the user and replies on the basis of predefined rules and data gathered in past experience. While chatbots have existed for years without going mainstream, several global trends have made 2017, the year of chatbots, like:
Mobile messenger: Chatbots have given a boost to the mobile ecommerce industry, for example : Sephora, ebay etc. Mobile messengers such as facebook messenger, whatsapp, wechat etc have become the most preferred means of communication on mobile devices. People are getting more comfortable with having conversation through these platforms, thus more and more companies are trying to expand their reach and provide a better experience through these platforms. Companies are placing their chatbots with gamifications and attractive names which engage in conversations with their users.
Cost reduction in chatbot development: Initially, the cost of developing a good interactive chatbot was huge. In recent years majorly 2017, software companies including IBM, Microsoft, Facebook and Google have released and made available for free advanced development tools and framework that includes a vast amount of research data. Great news for people who love to shop online as they will get a better view of what they are buying with things like getting the look of a furniture through augmented placement in your home.
Gravbox: Ever wondered how amazing it would be to create geological terrains through your hands and see how gravity works on objects moving on them in real life? Sounds like a scene of some sci-fi flick but it is actually happening. Undergraduates of University of Lowa have designed and built an augmented reality sandbox- Gravbox that helps users visualize how variations in gravity can affect moving objects.
Pokemon go: Unless and until you are living under a rock, you must have heard of the new game pokemon go that is not only popular amongst teenagers but is gaining popularity amongst adults too. The game being perfect example of augmented reality has everyone go gaga over it and features a gaming experience like never before. While the game was the buzz in 2017 there are other applications that are using the same technology like filters in Snapchat.
In 2018 and near future AR has greater implications not only in gaming but while creating 3D objects and offshore education.
Virtual reality is an old player in the game of these two technologies. It is an artificial, computer-generated simulation or recreation of a real life environment or situation. It immerses the user by making them feel like they are experiencing the simulated reality firsthand, primarily by stimulating their vision and hearing. Now let’s take a look at the advancement during the year 2017.
Wireless virtual reality to take over: Ditch those wires because wireless is the new cool. Every electronic device is now a days wireless, because of course it is more convenient to carry around your devices without the hassle of those tangled wires. So how could virtual reality lag behind. The future is near where we will have wireless virtual reality .
Virtual reality shopping: Big names in retail market like Alibaba ,has launched a VR store called BUY+ that allows buyers to wander around the mall with big brand names like macy’s , Target and Costco. So now just sit and relax at your home while you shop for everything you need, thanks to virtual reality.
Electronic skin: At first glance, the shiny little gold elements look like a modern tattoo. But on this extremely thin, almost invisible foil that sticks to the palm of the hand like a second skin, there are sensors which provide people with a “sixth sense” for magnetic fields. These sensors will enable people to manipulate everyday objects or control appliances both in the physical world and in augmented or virtual reality with mere gestures, similar to how we use a smartphone now.
The technologies have great applications coming in 2018. Facebook has announced a messaging app for kids i.e., Facebook Messenger Kids , Snapchat plans to launch a new augmented reality art platform featuring pop artist Jeff Koons and others. It will allow art to be pinned to specific locations in augmented reality so users can see it when they hold up their phones in the right spot.

It is widely used among health trackers to keep a track on their fitness. Apple watches are now made waterproof though it is not usable in areas like scuba diving etc which includes high velocity. Till now it is considered to be the most bought wearable in IOT due to its low price.
DAQRI Smart Helmets: Hard hats are important in construction industry and for this DAQRI has taken a step forward to modify it and add features to simplify the lifestyle of people at construction sites. Embedded camera on helmets which has a Virtual Visor to give instructions on what the next work is to be done on the workplace and it also gives the facility to keep construction records.

The infrastructure of IoT will move to the edge and the specialized platforms in which the developers will have a significant effect on those platforms while security will still be an issue. According to this prediction, Enterprises will ramp up their efforts to pilot and roll out voice-based services to consumers, New European guidelines will give the green light for commercializing IoT data, Marketers will wake up to the IoT opportunity, while wearables remain a niche, Key use cases will drive a spike in deployment of edge solutions, Builders of industrial IoT platforms will exit the IaaS business, IoT platform offerings will begin to specialize in design and operate scenarios, A developer drive to the edge will precipitate IoT platform consolidation and more than we can think.

Though internet is a great place to store your data but still the fear of getting your private data being leaked or hacked by hackers is a concern of most people, online. Cyber security protects the integrity of networks, programs and data from attack, damage and unauthorized access. While we’ve seen some great data losses like data hack of yahoo’s user base, there have been really good advancements in the field.
Past couple of years have seen great increase in the usage of following techniques and advancements are done day by day to curb the data losses.
